«We are grateful for such a high assessment of the work in the conditions of the crisis, - said the Managing director of the Sochi International Airport Sergey Filippov. - For our team, 2020 was hard year. For the first time in our history, we turned off the runway lights, turned off the terminals. From the outside, this picture resembled the besieged Leningrad. Our production rates dropped on 98% during crisis. But we did everything to keep the staff, not to lay off a single employee, because we knew that crisis would end. And it was over with an explosive passenger flow in the same year 2020. Already in the summer, the records for daily passenger traffic set during the Olympic Games and the World Cup were broken. This year, these indicators have increased by another 50 percent. This is the merit of those non-standard solutions to improve the production process, implemented at the Sochi airport. We try to meet the expectations of airlines and passengers and guarantee comfort and safety».
This year for the title of Airport of the Year competed 11 participants. The winner was determined by secret ballot by the members of the expert council of the competition. The expert council includes representatives of public organizations, the aviation business, the media and independent experts.
«Considering the unprecedentedly difficult situation around the world the fact of continuing operations and maintaining the country's transport connectivity is an example of the resilience of airlines and airports, their ability to adapt to any challenges. Winners of the Wings of Russia 2020 award are real heroes, the value of the awards is extremely high”, - said one of the Wings of Russia founders Boris Rybak.
